It was an early September evening when Jen + Garret had their intimate backyard wedding in Jen’s childhood home in Vernon. I walked into the backyard and I could not believe what they had put together! Jen and her mom had collected so many antique goodies and had created such an amazing space. They had one long table with string lights set up for dinner and wooden benches facing a vintage rug for the ceremony. I knew we were going to have the most amazing evening!
Garret was down the street getting ready at a friends place and Jen was in her childhood bedroom. They were surrounded by their closest friends and family, laughing and anticipating what was to come! Jen and her sister’s in-law were quickly ready to go and watching the guests arrive. Once we got close to the ceremony time, the veil was put in and we were ready!
Everyone sat down on the benches and awaited Jen’s arrival. The sun was setting right behind trees and it was magical! The vows were beautiful, they had everyone laughing and crying! They are married! After making their way out of the backyard, Jen + Garret took a moment on the front porch for themselves. Sipping some champagne and taking in the moment. I highly recommend doing something like this! The wedding day will go by so quickly, and it is so important to stop and savour it all! Jen kept saying “That was so fun! Let’s do it again”.
For portraits we hopped into Jen’s dad’s convertible and went to a beach access just down the street. For their second spot they had scouted the most amazing vacant lot down the street with some stunning Vernon views looking out over Kalamalka and Lake Okanagan. The sun was in a perfect spot all evening. Their portraits are to die for!! So much laughter paired with the golden sun tones. What more could we have wanted! If it works to have an evening wedding – do it! It allowed for a calmer morning and the most beautiful light for their ceremony and their portraits.
After spending a perfect amount of time taking in the sun, we headed back for dinner. The Chef Instead catered the evening and the food was melt-in-your-mouth good. To end off the night he even hand made mini donuts with toppings! Yes please! After dinner, speeches under the lights started. This was my favourite time. The mood was perfect and the words were so sweet! There was so much love and support for Jen + Garret! Then of course, to conclude the night we danced!
